MPE, Inc. (Micro Precision Engineering) offers two levels of expedited service:
- Next Day (75% surcharge)
- Two Day (50% surcharge)
Next Day means we ship out the completed order the next business day after the wafers or substrates are received. If the wafers arrive at our location on a Tuesday, we would ship them on Wednesday afternoon. If the wafers arrive at our location on Friday, we would ship them on Monday afternoon.
Two Day means we ship two business days after the wafers or substrates are received. If the wafers arrive at our location on a Tuesday, we would ship them on Thursday afternoon. If the wafers arrive at our location on Friday, we would ship them on Tuesday afternoon.
When shipping wafers and substrates to MPE, we recommend using a delivery service that delivers before noon (such as FedEx Priority Overnight) for all expedited orders.
Arranging an Expedited Order
Capacity for expedited orders is determined on a case-by-case basis and depends on the material, number of process steps, and number of grinding passes required. For silicon wafers, capacity for most rush orders is limited to one or two cassettes of 25 wafers.
We always recommend referencing the quote or purchase order numbers somewhere in the paperwork included with expedited shipments.
It is recommended that the customer informs MPE of an expedited order at least two business days before the wafers are ready to arrive. In the initial contact form or RFQ form, you can specify an interest in an expedited order. You can also convert an existing order into an expedited one at a later time. Purchase order documents will need to be issued before the wafers arrive at MPE.
A time period of a few days to setup a customer account may be required for first-time customers. Once a customer relationship and process is established, MPE can operate on shorter advanced notice.
There is no limit to how far in advance a person can scheduled expedited work.
Here’s some additional key information on logistics and shipping
- We are open for receipt and pickups Monday through Friday 8 am – 6 pm Central Time
- Sometimes customers will hand-carry items. We are convenient to both Dallas-Fort Worth and Love Field airports.
- We have many international customers who use our expedited services. We only count the turnaround time at MPE in the expedite time. We don’t count the courier’s transportation time in our timelines.
- MPE most frequently uses FedEx, UPS, and DHL for receipt and delivery of processed wafers. FedEx is highly recommended for expedited orders due to the ability to schedule on-call evening pickups on late notice.
Occasionally, “hotshot”, “door to door”, or local couriers can be arranged upon request. For the hotshot couriers, our customers typically hire the courier directly. Some of the hotshot couriers we have used are Quick International and Pronto. We have never paid these couriers directly. The only couriers that MPE has accounts with are FedEx and UPS.
